Nicolas Sarkozy has announced that burqas and niqabs are no longer welcome in the paradise of France.
The extremely irritable French President feels that it’s necessary for all immigrants to completely integrate themselves into French culture, leaving all former identity behind. Apparently, noticeable culture differences spark hatred between ethnic and religious groups. Well, yes…that can happen. But banning a Muslim tradition? Won’t that create more tension between cultures?
Here’s the irony; he says he’s banning the full-body coverings because they represent oppression. What does he think he’s doing by telling Muslim women their religious beliefs are not welcome in France?
Sarkozy states,” Who doesn’t see that our integration model isn’t working any more? Instead of producing equality, it produces inequality. Instead of producing cohesion, it creates resentment.” This guy is so incredibly warped. He wants everyone in his culture to bow down to the wishes of himself and of the majority. France has already passed a ban on Muslim head scarves in public schools! Who knows what else Sarkozy will try to do.
Here’s the scary part; he has many people behind him, supporting his statement. And his opposition is stating that this law will create tension in the French Muslim community. Oh really? They need to have a much stronger argument than that if they want to prevent a ban on burqas from being put into place. Every which way I turn, individual rights are being stepped on.
Salaam aleikum France.
With all this hullabaloo about Miss California’s “controversial” opinion on gay marriage, I might as well state my opinion too. First of all, her opinion did not cost her the Miss USA title. The points were added up and she couldn’t have won anyways. It was relatively stupid of her to voice her opinion to judges that she should have known were for gay marriage. I’m not saying the judges should dock a contestant points because of the contestant’s opinions, but they have a right to do so. The winner is based on their judgements, that’s why they’re the judges.
Miss California is allowed to have her own opinions. If people believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, then good for them. No one is going to stop an individual from marrying someone of the opposite sex. The moral issue is whether or not same sex couples should marry, and whether or not society should be allowed to stop them.
If you believe that homosexuals shouldn’t marry, then don’t marry someone of your gender. That will end the problem. Right? Pah, the bible and tradition state that marriage is between a man and a woman, so no one is allowed to dissent from common practice. The whole nation will collapse from the immorality of homosexuals!
How is being homosexual immoral? Supporting a ban on gay marriage is immoral. You are stating people are not free to lead their own lives, they need to be monitored to prevent any deviant behavior. Good grief.
When you support a ban on gay marriage, you are imposing your morality on other people. Why shouldn’t gays be allowed to marry? Their marriage doesn’t have anything to do with you. Please explain to me how your values are in jeopardy when someone else does something you don’t agree with. It is completely frustrating that some people believe their ideals and lifestyles should be imposed on everyone they have to look at or hear about. Let them get married.
The recently passed federal tax on cigarettes is entirely unconstitutional and immoral. The tax on one pack of cigarettes increased from 39 cents to $1.01. The government must see smokers as intrinsically stupid and harmful to society. Many people that smoke want to quit and cannot. Smoking is not just a relaxing ritual, it’s addictive and overpowering. So why are taxes increasing?
Well, it is true that when when the cost of smoking goes up, the consumption drops. But it is not the government’s job to control peoples’ personal lives. The government is supposed to be of the people, for the people. All this tax does is polarize America. Those who smoke, and those who stand up for individual rights, are pitted against those who think government needs to stop people from harming themselves.
Another reason people agree with this tax is that the money will go towards the federally funded State Children’s Health Insurance Program. Nobody is going to disagree with helping kids, that’s not the issue. The problem here is that money is being taken from the consumers and put to whatever cause the government sees fit. We TAX PAYERS ARE NOT STUPID! We can decide what to do with our own money! In fact, I’d like to support children in need of Health Insurance. Big government is exerting its control over our daily lives and it must be stopped.
This isn’t the only limit on the rights of smokers. 23 states have bans against smoking in most public places. This number includes Virginia, North Carolina, Kansas, South Dakota, and Wyoming recently added to the list. The law in Virginia bans smoking in private bars and restaurants if they do not have a separate room and a separate ventilation system for smoking sections. This is a private issue! Patrons of restaurants understand the risks of secondhand smoke, and they choose to eat food where they want to. If someone doesn’t like a restaurants policy, they are not forced to eat there.
Both of these policies will cost businesses and individuals millions of dollars. The Government somehow believes that it is helping the people, but this perverse view should not be tolerated.
